Andre Cornelius will be suspended 10 games, will return Dec 21 game vs Duquesne

George Mason athletic department has announced that Andre Cornelius will be suspended 10 games this season after his arrest in September. He will return December 20, the day before the game vs Duquesne. Here is a quote from Andre on the suspension:

“I accept this punishment and will work as hard as possible to support my team and get ready to make an impact when I come back”

Cornelius pleaded guilty to the credit card fraud charges and it appears those charges have been dismissed. Originally I thought the suspension would be less but I’m sure the fact that this wasn’t his first suspension might have been a factor. So the Patriots won’t have Cornelius for the NIT Tip-off or the game against UVA but they will have him for him for all by one CAA game (@ Towson Dec 3).

Well that sucks but hopefully he learns from it and is a better man for it, he will be missed for those games but the young guys will step up and make a contribution, he will be fresh when he comes back at least.

will be interesting to see what the point guard situation is when he returns.

  • Charlie T

This will make him a better leader not just in Basketball but in life. Yes,I am glad he is back with his teammates and the school he represents.

  • Jared Prebish

It could have been worse…he could have been kicked off the team.  Anyone taking GMU for granted should look out come January and February!!

We have to keep in mind it is not all about basketball and I hope this will help him in his life.  there are consequences to decisions you make and better for him to learn now then later and possibly a bigger mistake.

He charged $60 on an ex girlfriend’s credit card, nothing life threatening. Student-athletes are expected to hold themselves to higher standards than the rest of the student body so I am not going to pity him for being dumb. Larranaga probably would have dismissed him so I think he is lucky to still have the honor of playing basketball here this year. And this site about is about george mason basketball and his actions have repercussions on this year’s team, of course I am going to talk about that.

I am not questioning us talking about it because it does affect the team.  I thought the charge was worse because I heard he found the card and charged on it. I am just saying that we need to build good citizens and 10 games, though it hurts the team, may help him in the long run not to do something like this again when he is older.
