George Mason run out of Patriot Center on Homecoming

It has been rare to see George Mason never in the game on Homecoming Saturday but they were routed on their home floor against Georgia State yesterday. Mason hadn’t lost a home CAA by this big of a margin in 11 years and have now lost their last three home conference games. The combination of Mason’s poor perimeter defense, turnovers, and Georgia State’s hot shooting led to this game unraveling quickly. The Panthers had 51 points at the half and Mason had nothing going on offense except for Sherrod Wright.

The Patriots have had more a lot of success on the road and it’s a bit strange how they can’t seem to get it done at home recently. Defensively they continue to make the same mistakes and it they allow opposing teams to basically do whatever they want at times. The focus and effort just doesn’t seem to be there and it hasn’t changed much from the beginning of the season.

Coming out as flat as they did on a Saturday where the Patriot Center had over 8,000 fans in attendance was perplexing. I had thought the larger than usual crowd would give this team a lift but instead we saw a team lacking intensity right from the tip. It’s frustrating to watch a team not improve and keep making the same mistakes. We essentially the same team returning next year it’s hard to think we will see anything better.

By hey, at least Tom O’Connor might be gone soon…

Flash back to the Ernie Nester days.

A very disappointing season. This team appears to be regressing, not progressing
as the season wears on. I‘m I seriously
considering not renewing my season tickets next year. Same mistakes repeatedly. Is this a coaching issue?

Is there an ACC basketball package available on cable? This way I could follow Coach L and save some $$$ and the frustration.

    Yes, ESPN.

Meanwhile in the ACC, Coach Larranaga and Miami are #2 in the country and in the A-10, VCU is on top and #24 in both polls.

    Hewitt is a disaster.

What an abomination of a season this has been. As an alum, being blown out in our homecoming game to a clearly less talented Georgia State squad is absolutely embarrassing. Up until this season, home court wins were pretty much a given. Unless Hewitt can lead miraculously lead this team to a conference championship, he absolutely has to go. In a perfect world, our AD has Coach L’s assistant coaches on the speed dial to see who is interested in salvaging this program.

Watching them play defense and over rotating to leave guys wide open has really become frustrating. At one point during the game I called the GA St offense before it happened. Drive the lane, kick out, wide open three. At least I got a pretty cool look of awe fron the guy in the row in front of me.

No seniors means no on-court leadership. We all want Sherrod to be that guy, but I think only Bryon has tried to be that guy.
The former coach is gone and he’s not coming back. Get over it. I don’t know if any former assistants would be willing to come back for **this** job. (Would that be a pay cut?)
