ESPN’s Jeff Goodman spoke with Paul Hewitt about the current status of George Mason forwards Johnny Williams and Erik Copes:
“George Mason coach Paul Hewitt said that Johnny Williams was cleared a couple of weeks ago after a concussion ended his 2012-13 season in late-January. Hewitt also said that fellow big man Erik Copes is improving, after battling though a hip injury for nearly all of last season. “Erik’s getting better,” Hewitt said. “He didn’t do anything the first month of the summer, but August will be a big month for him.”
Good to see Williams is finally cleared. Now the question remains of whether or not he will have a chance to get back into the starting lineup. I think Jon Arledge’s play at the end of the season may have won him the start, at least for the beginning of the season.
Hopefully Copes has been able to rest and fully recover for the hip injury that nagged him all last season. The Patriots really need him to have more spring in his step this season and take control of the paint on both ends.
