George Mason missed out on one of their target recruits when TeMarcus Blanton committed to South Carolina on a recent visit. This is the time of year when we will start hearing more commitments from the 2014 class. There are two recruits that have been reportedly scheduled for official visits this month. Both are in the SG/SF mold and are regarded as good transition players who like to get up and down the court.
Therence Mayimba is a 6’5″ wing player who is actually visiting campus today. He is a local kid and highly rated on ESPN’s recruiting site. He is labeled as a “ferocious rebounder” and a phenomenal defender. On offense he is best known for attacking the rim and getting points in transition.
Eric Lockett is a 6’6″ forward from Georgia who will be visiting on September 28. He is the kind of player that loves to run the floor and score in transition. Much like Mayimba is also labeled as an excellent rebounder.
Both players sound like they would be a perfect fit for Paul Hewitt’s system. It’s obvious he wants rangy, athletic guys with great physical tools. He recruited that way at Georgia Tech and is looking for the right pieces to run the uptempo offense he keeps touting. Mason needs to start winning some recruiting battles if they are going to compete in the A-10, there’s no escaping that.
