Finally a rivalry that actually feels like a rivalry for George Mason. George Washington and George Mason have announced the beginning of “The Revolutionary Rivalry”, now that both schools are in the same conference. Definitely has a much better ring to it than “Battle of the Orange Line”. Great wording on the official release here, a rivalry “dating back to legendary debates on the Virginia House of Burgesses”:
Today, George Mason and George Washington are the namesakes of two of the top athletic programs in the Atlantic 10 Conference. As the schools face off for the first time as conference opponents, the budding rivalry is set to take off as one of the best in the nation. In its inaugural year, The Revolutionary Rivalry is the year-long series between GW and Mason Athletics. The two departments have pledged to compete for the Tri-Corner Hat Trophy. Between GW’s Colonial Army and Mason’s Patriot Platoon, the rivalry’s inaugural season in 2013-14 is primed to be one for the history books.
I like how this will be an annual battle between the two athletic programs, fight for that Tri-Corner Hat! The involvement of the Patriot Platoon and the Colonial Army bring a better fan experience to the rivalry as well. I’m with DC Sports Bog on this one that I can’t wait to see that Tri-Corner Hat trophy and yes, stockades for the losers!
George Mason is 2-10 against George Washington in the the all-time series for men’s basketball.
