JUCO prospect visits George Mason

George Mason still has a scholarship available for next season with Anali Okoloji transferring out. The staff’s most recent interest seems to be 7’0″ prospect Shevon Thompson from Harcum College. The junior college big man visited this past weekend and ODU is also showing interest. I find the interest in another big man puzzling with the losses in the team’s back court. Either the coaching staff is settled on what they have right now or just couldn’t land a decent guard. Another center on the roster seems like a luxury at this point given the lack of depth in the back court.

I’m worried about a JUCO 7 footer that is only getting attention from GMU and ODU (assuming that is really it). In the worst scenario next year during the first week Moore has a season ending muscle tear. Then what?

……..Hopefully that doesn’t happen. If that were to happen we would have to rely on Corey Edwards and make Patrick Holloway into a part time point guard. Maybe even Isaiah Jackson or walk on Myles Tate. If Moore were to have season ending injury that would DEFINATELY be a worst case scenario. I’m not confident in any of the names that could replace Moore if that were to happen.
I also agree on you about Shevon Thompson. With only a few schools after him, it sounds like it may be because he has already reached his ceiling and possibly no more room for more upside to his game. I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt and say that Mason is pursuing this guy not because they are comfortable with the point guard situation BUT instead are pursuing this guy because all of the PGs they want have been taken and the leftovers are not meeting thier criteria for a A10 level player.

Moore is ok, but until he develops a shot, any shot, pg is still a glaring weakness. I’ve seen plenty of guys my age in pick-up games who would destroy him in a game of horse.

Before anything else we need a PG who can get everyone else going with strong passes and not picking up his dribble or turning the ball over a ton. If Moore is not a scoring option but we have guys who can catch the ball in the post and aggressively go to the glass or pass out of a double team other guys on the floor can attack or pull up and shoot we don’t need him to score a lot. When Cam Long ran the ball he could also score but he was really effective getting guys going. Allen could score and take care of the ball but he was a 2 stepping up to the 1 and I never felt like he facilitated the team. For me Moore doesn’t have to score he just needs to have a great assit:turnover ratio.

        I agree. If…
