Team planning a trip to Spain this summer

Thanks to everyone that came out last night for the Q & A with Paul Hewitt and the rest of the coaching staff. We had a great turnout and interaction among the group. We will also be looking to have another event similar in the summer, possibly involving an open practice or something like that.

One bit of news that came out of it was that the team is looking to plan a trip to Spain this summer as it has been four years since their last international team trip. By NCAA rules they can do one of these trips every four years. Last time they went to Italy prior to the start of the 2010-11 season and it certainly seemed as though it brought that group together. With all the new faces next season a trip like this could an be excellent team bonding experience.

The team is still putting together the details and preparation but Spain is a great choice considering the strong basketball presence there and the fact that assistant coach Chris Kreider is a fluent Spanish speaker.

Thanks for helping with organizing last night’s very candid discussion. Really appreciated the coaching staff’s commitment to open, informal communications. I think the evening did build a sense of “family” that can only get stronger with any further direct interactions. The evening also helped to address my college-basketball-experience deficit during this off-season. Can’t wait for the new season to kick-off.

Last night was pretty cool. Great setting and honest back and forth. Thank you for everyone that coordinated that. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m getting excited for the coming season. Go Mason!!!

    This just in….
Mason defeats VCU 3-2 in 10 innings to win A10 Tourney!!!!!
This was the Patriots second win over the Rams in the tourney, and means that they swept their opponents to finish 4-0. They also beat VCU earlier inthe year to knock them out of the top 25.
This is all in addition to Mason’s win over the Rams in the A10 soccer tournament, which they also won.
Now, let’s hope for similar results from the basketball team.
    Keep it going PATRIOTS!!!!!!!

Basketball may have stunk, but all in all, not a bad first year showing.
To me, baseball and soccer are probably the two biggest sports behind basketball in a non- football conference.

I listened to the game on Saturday online it was a real nail biter. I used to watch the team between classes over at old “North Campus”, before they built their current field next to the Field House in about 1980. They have come a long way.

The Patriots head to Houston to play Rice in their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2009. Rice is the top seed having gone 41-13 during the season. Texas and Texas A&M round out the rest of the regional bracket. Mason is a long way from home and will definately be facing hostile crowds in Texas.
Lots of misplaced arrogance in Texas. It would be nice for GMU to come home with a regional title under their belts.
Maybe someone should also remind them that their beloved first governor, Sam Houston, was a Virginian who only went to Texas because he felt sorry for them and wanted to try to introduce them to the 19th century.

      Correction to self…
      The Owls went 41-18.

Congrats Patriots on a great baseball season. From 18 wins in 2013 to 34 and A10 Championship in 2014. Doesn’t get much better than that. Love the fact that the skipper (a former GMU player) took the job for $10,000 thirty-three years ago and is still there.
