Paul Hewitt looks to have received his first commitment of the 2015 recruiting class. Ahmad Gilbert, a 6’6″ wing from Philadelphia, has announced on twitter and others have confirmed that he has chosen George Mason:

Hewitt loves taking athletic 6’5″ – 6’7″ small forwards and turning them into shooting guards at the college level and this looks like another one of those situations. ESPN has him as a 4-star kid and shows that Wichita State had offered him as well. Temple and USF were also in his final eight.
Our friends over at City of Basketball Love have shared some praise for him:
“Ever since the July live period kicked off with the Reebok Breakout Classic for Gilbert, his stock has soared. A number of great shooting performances against some of the nation’s top talent vaulted the 6-foot-6 wing into the next tier with an offer from South Florida, on top of a number of other mid-major offers. Gilbert displayed a great mid-range game throughout his junior season at Constitution, which led to a AA state title and a public league final berth. If Gilbert continues to show that consistency through his final high school year, more high-major schools will be trying to get involved.”
Gilbert is a proven scorer and is coming off a great summer:
Nice pick up by George Mason. Ahmad Gilbert can really score. Had huge summer with Team Final. Put up big point totals at @BreakoutClassic.

This is hopefully a case were Hewitt was able to get a commitment early from a kid who about to blow up with offers from bigger programs.
