2016 recruit Ian Boyd spurns football, commits to George Mason

The recruiting news about the 2016 keeps rolling in as George Mason got a commitment yesterday from shooting guard Ian Boyd from Apex, North Carolina.

Boyd is an interesting case because his commitment to playing basketball is a surprise to many as he was being heavily recruited  by Virginia Tech, ODU, ECU, and Georgia Tech to play football. Boyd, like fellow 2016 Troy Temara commit, is a very athletic player with a high ceiling. Dave Paulsen and his staff seem to be keying in on guys that have high upside and after some time in his fundamental-heavy system will thrive. He is a big, physical guard, that Mason certainly needs in the 2016 class as the back court will be totally revamped in the next two years. Watching his highlights he will definitely remind some of Folarin Campbell.
