Dave Paulsen, who said he wanted to make a point to recruit local when taking the George Mason job, has landed local recruit AJ Wilson. You may remember me mentioning recently on twitter that Wilson was undecided between coming to George Mason as a 2016 recruit or doing a year of prep school. Mason just won that recruiting battle and they will add immediate help up front and on the wing with Wilson.

Wilson has serious athletic ability and had interest from VCU, Maryland, Charlotte, Nevada, UCF, and Penn State to name a few. He has a reputation as a rim protector as evidenced in the video from scout.com here. And also has the ability to finish at the rim as seen here:
With this addition and that of 2017 recruit Goanar Mar, Mason had quickly revamped a weakness and is currently building a force to compete with the power A-10 programs. Mason has desperately needed some scoring ability and toughness from the wing position for quite some time. The rest of the 2016 class, along with Otis Livingston II and Jaire Grayer, provide depth and an updated back court. It’s obvious Dave Paulsen is building from the guards up, which makes sense because Shevon Thompsons only come around so often for a team like Mason. In the coming years Mason will have guys in the back court and wing players who can score, rebound, and play defense.
Here’s a bit more footage of Wilson’s game:
