Forward Greg Calixte commits to George Mason

2017 recruit Greg Calixte took an official visit last weekend and today he announced he’s committed to George Mason:

This commitment gives Mason some needed size in the front court for next season with the departure of senior Jalen Jenkins. At around 230 lbs he already has a Division I body and will just need to work on the parts of his game that are still a bit raw. But this is a great pick up at this point in the recruiting period and hopefully Paulsen has brought someone in who can contribute immediately.

I think he will definitely compete for minutes in the front court with his rebounding and defense. Here is what one of his high school assistant coaches had to say about him:

His AAU coach had similar comments and praise:

“He’s fantastic young man who will be an asset to his college,” Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino said. “He’s a hard worker and extremely loyal.”

Said Rens coach Dwayne Murray: “He’s a true 6-9, college-ready body. He has good timing on the blocks, is an effective passer out of the post, has very good pivots in the post and is extremely coachable.”

“His offensive abilities will increase in the college ranks.”

The coaching staff seems to have found a great fit in terms of someone who will come in and buy into the culture and playing style. Calixte’s motor and intensity are an added bonus in upgrading Mason’s athletic ability in the front court along with Troy Temara.

Awesome, definitely fills a need. Paulsen has totally revamped this roster in a short period of time.

Glad to have another option besides Relvao who can play the five. I think this kid could be groomed into another Jalen Jenkins hard-nosed player. Will have to see how he holds up on defense at the next level.

Very good news for him to commit- they need some help up front. Let’s see who the other two signees are.

Fantastic! Any news on Akiean Frederick?

I hope we are still in the running for him, he visits next week.

Its always good when you hear someone praise a kid’s ability to be coached, their intensity and how hard they work. Its also not bad to hear he can pass out of the post…

Since he is described as “raw” but with a “college body” and natural skills, I wonder if the first order of business for Calixte will be to replace the rebounding left behind by Quise and Jalen.
