I’ve been hearing a rumor for awhile, now from multiple people, that George Mason will be playing at Louisville this November. [Enter Luke Hancock joke here]. It appears to be a buy game, in which Mason will receive money to play in the game and their won’t be a return trip. The program hasn’t done a buy game like this since December of 2006 when they traveled to Cameron to face Duke on ESPN. Perhaps they are doing this for added exposure and recruiting reasons or maybe they just want to have headliner on their non-conference schedule. We’ll have to see if this all turns out to be true but I’m always excited at a chance to see Mason knock off a power five school. With still a relatively young team, having no seniors, this could be a valuable road trip for the squad in the long run.
In other scheduling news, the Atlantic 10 announced their conference pairings for the 2017-18 season. Here who Mason will be facing this year:
Having to only face Dayton once, and at home, will be a plus. But Rhode Island on the road will be their toughest game of the year most likely. Not a bad layout for Mason in 2017-18 but there is a lot up in the air this year in the conference.
In roster news, preferred walk-on George Papas, won’t be joining the team as he was offered a scholarship from Monmouth. Shows Dave Paulsen’s eye for talent that he almost had a DI scholarship worthy player on the team as a walk-on. Looks like his spot will be taken by this kid:
